I still gave him this book to help in becoming a better and more educated person

My coworker told me about this book. You see, I have two brother in laws who curses all the time. I also have a brother who does also curses. I truly believe that people who feel a need to express themselves using curse words is uneducated and have no respect for he or herself or the person they are talking with. I gave this to one of my brother-in-laws for Father's Day. Although, I believe he finally realized how he sounds when using those words because he has made remarkable changes in his vocabulary, I still gave him this book to help in becoming a better and more educated person. Taming Your Tongue not only speaks about cursing, but also about complaining, gossiping, and other things we need to take note of when speaking. I bought four of these because I plan to give to my other brother-in-law for his birthday and my brother for his birthday. I also want to keep one for me. It never hurts to educate ourselves. You won't go wrong with purchasing this book and giving it to someone who feels a need to curse, complain, or talk about others.

I love this book, it is an easy read and was delivered promptly! This book gives practical explanations and examples of some very basic principles that we often times overlook. It displays many perspectives of what to say and what not to say.......all food for thought. I found that it has helped me to become a better listener. This not only helps others to open up more - but makes them feel better knowing that they have been heard. It encourages you to become less selfish and more open to the thoughts and ideas of others. This ultimately leads to having more consideration and patience - encouraging better relationships and people skills. Understanding others is key to building trust and genuine friendship(s). This book is good as a daily devotion and/or affirmations. It also helps with the development of self discipline as it relates to words - which are so easy to dish out, but almost impossible to take back! There is truly power and an art to "Taming your Tongue!"

So far good but....

So far this book is good but I did have an issue with the whole 'complimenting people being deceitful'. I just don't agree with that. Yes there are people who compliment others because they want something and that is wrong, however, the bible does say we are to lift each other up. Not all complimenting is bad. I compliment my son for doing a good job with his alphabaet. If my friend is dressed nice for her interview I will compliment her. I don't think all complimenting is bad. Maybe the author was a bit vague in this area.

Other than that the book is a good read so far.

About the Author
Harry Blackstone, Jr., was twice named Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts at Hollywood's Magic Castle. He also received the prestigious Star of Magic from the Society of American Magicians. Charles and Regina Reynolds are the authors of 100 Years of Magic Posters. Charles has created magic for both Blackstone and Doug Henning, and is the co-author, with Henning, of Houdini: His Legend and His Magic.

Not worth the money

I have to say that this book gives a history of magic and some vague answers to the art of magic and illusion. It was basic information with some simple tricks. You could probably find the same stuff on the internet for free. If you are looking for answers about bigger illusions than making two matches pass through each other then this is not your book. He implies that the reader is not ready for some of the larger tricks in a tone that could be considered arrogant. Also, there is a lot of him tooting his own horn or telling you how great he is and how great his dad was, like we did not already know. He makes several references in the book as to how his dad was better than Houdini and how Houdini stole ideas and property from his dad. Maybe true, but thats not what I bought the book for. All in all, dont waste your money. It would be better spent elsewhere....you could learn more on YouTube and not have to read through all the fluff.

Secrets of illusion revealed by one of the OLD MASTERS!

As a Conjurer I have studied the classic works of many of the great old conjurers. Of all of them Blackstone is one of the most well known. This book provides clear and simple explanations of some of the greatest tricks and illusions known to Magic. Great for the beginning or advanced conjuror.

I good book for learning the history of magic.

If you are looking for a book to learn magic tricks, try something else (like the Mark Wilson Course in Magic.) But if you would like a general book about magic history, especially the careers of the Blackstone Family, this is a good book to get. It covers all aspects of magic starting with ancient China, going through medieval times and heavily emphasizing from 1850 - 1980. Lots of photos and descriptions of a variety of magicians but only gets in depth with the Blackstones. It does have a few basic tricks but they are covered much better in other books.
Overall I enjoyed it.

About the Author
David Biale (Ph.D. UCLA) is Emanuel Ringelblum Professor of Jewish History at the University of California, Davis, where he directs the Humanities Institute. He is the author and editor of ten books, including Gershom Scholem: Kabbalah and Counter-History, Eros and the Jews, Not in the Heavens: The Tradition of Jewish Secular Thought, and Cultures of the Jews: A New History. In 2011, he was awarded the UC Davis Prize for Undergraduate Teaching and Scholarly Achievement.

Jack Miles (Ph.D. Harvard) is Distinguished Professor of English and Religious Studies with the University of California at Irvine and Senior Fellow for Religious Affairs with the Pacific Council on International Policy. He spent 1960–70 as a Jesuit seminarian, studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem before enrolling at Harvard University, where he completed a Ph.D. in Near Eastern languages in 1971. His book GOD: A Biography won a Pulitzer Prize in 1996, and Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God led to his being named a MacArthur Fellow for 2003-07.

It is a collection of short stories, each only a couple of pages long, that makes for easy reading. It’s a book that you can pick up, put down, and pick up again even a week later since the short stories end, making it an ideal late night or lunchtime read. Each of the short stories is based on real life experiences by this PA in the course of his career. It is not a self-glorifying autobiography. It is a collection of memorable experiences, some focused on the patient, some on the patient’s family, and some on the supervising physician or even a specialist whose expertise was critical in the care of the patient and provided a learning experience for the PA. There are funny stories, sad stories, ingenious revelations, and that stereotypic patient story. I enjoyed reading this book for all of the reasons above, but I think that the most enjoyable part was the reflections I experienced about my own patients in the course of my career. Many of these stories triggered memories of previous patient experiences of my own. I have often stated that I would write a book someday…..Well, this Seth Wittner did just that! If you’re expecting some complex novel detailing the psychologic journey of a student becoming a PA and learning the life of a PA the hard way, you’re not going to get it. If you’re looking for some enjoyable, mostly light-hearted recollections of patient-care experiences, it’s worth the read! About the Author
Seth Wittner has been a physician assistant for fifteen years, following a career in music. He grew up near the Belmont Track and watched losing tickets fill the air from his high school classrooms. Seth received a B.A. in mathematics from Reed College and an M.A. in Scandinavian Studies from the U. of Wisconsin after working in Oslo, Norway and becoming proficient in Norwegian. His medical career has focused on Ear, Nose and Throat, Cardiology and Psychiatry. He lives in Henderson, NV.

Great stories and interesting insights

This was a nice, though short, collection of stories from the author and others highlighting various topics in healthcare. As a student, I appreciated the insights from a more experienced PA as well as some tips on what not to do. The book is on the short end though.

Music Meets Medicine! A wonderful digital book for the price!

Seth Wittner provides such an illustrative picture of his journey to becoming a physician assistant. But don't let the title fool you! This book is not only about one PA's experience in medicine with his patience. It provides an allegorical narrative of life's challenges and surprises and how every decision and encounter leads to something that is meant to be. Appropriately, Seth provides humorous but realistic accounts of how carelessness and lack of communication steered by stereotype and society can play such a role in misunderstandings and misdiagnosing in a professional field. This allows the reader to become more aware and present when visiting a practitioner and to also become more empathetic of treatment providers and the ethical guidelines they must follow. Lastly, Seth's timeline of his role as a musician also provides a interesting juxtaposition between science and art through Seth's narrative of medicine and music. Overall, a wonderful read! I highly recommend the purchase, especially for the price and quality!

A truly enjoyable read! True Tales provides an up-close and personal insight into the work of Physician Assistants. Informative yet far from dry, True Tales is written in a clear and compelling style, with a great deal of affection, the occasional jaundiced eye, and a pleasant low-key sense of humor. The author, himself an experienced Physician Assistant, recounts his most memorable episodes with the patients he has helped over the years and the medical doctors he has worked with. These short, captivating medical tales are interlaced with the author’s brief recollections of his experiences as a professional musician, and these provide an intriguing counterpoint. I thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Ray Burton is the father of Cliff Burton, the legendary Metallica bassist who died during the band's Master of Puppets tour. He lives in California.

James Hetfield is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and co-song writer for the the multi-Grammy award winning band Metallica. He lives in California.

Worth Every Penny - Great Photos & Memories to Cherish of a legendary Band and Scene that lives on in Metalheads Hearts forever!

Wow! I thought I owned "everything Metallica" in terms of books from the "good old days", but this one takes the cake. The photos brought back so many memories of the "METAL SCENE" back in the day - and I was thrilled to see so many photos I'd never seen before! Teleported me back in time to the first time I saw Metallica: Scotia, NY in January 1985 in a dinky little club/bowling alley called the Skyway, about 3 miles from my High School - imagine, future Metal Royalty gracing my home town! (I was in college at SUNY Albany at the time, #1 thrash metal fan-girl on campus for sure!) Still have my original tour shirt from that show which is one of my most valuable and cherished possessions. I'm 51 now (yikes!) but those great memories never leave you if you are a true fan - thank God they were captured on film for all to enjoy now. Go buy it now!

Very pleased with the quality and content of the book! Great photos and interviews! Absolutely love it! Amazon though my book came all scratched up as if it were dropped and slid on the floor or something. Aside from the bad shipping job Amazon did the book is awesome!
