Arranged Marriage Sweet Historical Romance That is Engaging From Cover to Cover

Forced to marry a near stranger and not one she has a favorable opinion about. The new Mrs. Darcy makes the most of her situation and starts to settle into her new life with contentment and growing feelings for a husband that remains aloof until his secrets start to spill forth. What was a fragile union now may be shattered for good.

Meanwhile, being mistress of a grand estate, going about in society, empathizing with one sister's disappointed hopes while another sister brazenly flaunts propriety, all serve to keep the new Mrs. Darcy busy.

This story gave a brief summation of events leading up to the scandal of being caught in a near kiss and then it settled in to drawing the reader close with Elizabeth's first person perspective narrative. This was a well-written arranged marriage story. I loved only having the single narrator because it lent some mystery to Fitzwilliam until the author was ready for his thoughts and motives to be revealed.

I loved how the arranged marriage was handled. There is high emotion on Elizabeth's part, but she is so put together through it all. It was refreshing actually to have a mature heroine who doesn't engage in undue angst. She doesn't deny her husband his conjugal rights- in fact, this is the one thing they have that really works from the beginning- and she does her best to make it work even when she disagrees with Fitzwilliam and he disappoints her with his displays of pride and superiority over her family. Fitzwilliam makes plenty of mistakes while at the same time he is caring and solicitous. There is the sense that storm clouds are gathering in the distance growing bigger and closer as his flaws become more obvious and she learns some shocking, hurtful things. It all built to a crisis point and then twisted its way a bit before giving a satisfying denouement.

The story is a variation tale of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, but the characters and plotting are the author's own. There are recognizable moments, but not in the same order and there are many alterations, as well. I loved getting a fresh new story while recognizing an old favorite. I really liked the author's characters and what she did with that slow developing relationship and character growth.

All in all, this was a splendid story on the sweeter end of the spectrum that I would recommend to historical romance and Austenesque lovers.

I am so glad a friend on Goodreads recommended this book!!! It was FABULOUS!! The plot twists and turns...the angst... The love between the Darcys was so well-developed!!! The supporting characters were interesting and kept the story moving along quickly!! Using Elizabeth's voice as the first person narrator was wonderful!!! This is one of the best P&P variations ever!!! I just can't believe how they keep getting published with these fresh new ideas!!!

Loved it!

Jenetta James has very eloquently presented Elizabeth Bennet's account of her marriage to Darcy from her own viewpoint. In view of this fact, even though Darcy is ever present, his thoughts and actions are not always available to the reader. I enjoyed this book very much and it ranks highly among my favorite P&P stories, vagaries and "what ifs." In particular, the sentence structure and dialogue flowed nicely to weave a plausible storyline for Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. The usual cast of characters are present in Elizabeth's narrative, but do not always carry the same "weight" as in other similar tales. Hannah was a nice addition to the story.

Volume I: Following an illustrated Introduction a lengthy chapter examines the parameters of researched topics in this work, the ten categories of personnel it includes, and how the data is presented as well as why. With nearly 100 illustrations alone in this chapter, the Combat Elements section begins with details of the forming of the division then in 13 sub chapters examines the individual combat units of the formation, not all of which existed initially or simultaneously. Starting as a motorized infantry division and ending the war as a tank formation, all the initial commanders at multiple levels and staff personnel are noted with career information. How each unit physically developed is documented along with all the subsequent commanders of these components with their military career specifics. Aside from those in preceding chapters, a further 20 of the formation's 55 Knight's Cross holders are also detailed to include service data and all surviving award proposals, the latter incorporated into the text or as one of multiple extended photo captions. The remainder are included among both volumes as is data on other Waffen-SS units created with cadre from "Totenkopf."

Separate chapters follow on the divisional commanders and senior staff officers. Half the division's more than 100 German Cross in Gold recipients are individually detailed to include their careers outside of "Totenkopf" service, all surviving award proposals, and full explanations of these diverse assignments. Throughout the volume is new data on Waffen-SS schools, training units, and predecessors and successors as they pertain to the "Totenkopf" Division. Following a chapter on the Single-handed Tank Destruction award is another detailing rare surviving award documents and similar material contributed by collections in Europe, Russia, and the United States.

A name index allows the reader to find all text entries and images for the more than 550 individuals in the initial volume that also details significant predecessors and successors. A glossary for the diverse terminology used in included.

Primarily unpublished images enhance this volume with their extended data captions, the authors also tracking down period prints or negatives for some well-known images to allow them to be reproduced with previously unseen detail and clarity.

With a world-wide list of contributors as well as significant veteran input, these volumes will be considered among the significant postwar studies on the Waffen-SS with their vast amount of new material for the historian, military collector, and modeler. Yerger's Masterpiece

Having written several books on specific Russian front battles, my interest in the classic Waffen SS and German Army divisions on the Eastern Front is considerable. One of the best known of the SS divisions, which was involved in many of the most famous battles in Russia, was the 3.SS-Panzer Division "Totenkopf." Starting with the first campaign in Russia, its enviable combat record, especially during defensive operations, was reinforced by further offensive successes during the battles for Kharkov and Kursk, as well as other combat operations when it was often far under-strength due to combat attrition. Army commanders of the period who had "Totenkopf" subordinated to their command spoke highly of the division, with Field Marshal von Manstein describing it as the best of the Waffen SS divisions.  However, books on “Totenkopf,” even after almost three-quarters of a century, have repeated many past errors, incorrect assumptions or show a lack of competent research. Authors willing to expend the requisite time, effort, and expenditure in careful research to guarantee accuracy are rare, while superficial, redundant or quickly written commercial books typify the vast majority of current day releases.   Mark C. Yerger is a prolific biographical researcher on the Waffen-SS with an earned reputation for presenting great detail and carefully researched factual works that are without bias. He has been the first or only researcher to write on a number of specific topics, in great detail that deal with the Waffen SS, its commanders and personnel. The amount of information found in Yerger’s nine volumes on SS German Cross recipients published by R. James Bender Publishing has not been equaled or even attempted for any other part of Germany's military. He has produced a series of books with a more complete body of information than any other comparable works, such as the many volumes about Knight's Cross holders that are available. Yerger’s book are a source of personnel information, organizational structure and personal battlefield exploits of Waffen SS soldiers which I have incorporated into my own books.  However, having read the first volume of his "Totenkopf" trilogy I honestly believe he has peaked as a Waffen-SS historian. Although he has written about various topics on nearly all the classic Waffen-SS combat units since the 1980s, I doubt that he can exceed the level of detailed information found in his “Totenkopf” trilogy.  After a lengthy introduction, a "Commanders and Award Holders" chapter details the parameters of this comprehensive, detailed study of the personalities, organization and history of the division and provides a large amount of related information. A history of the four prewar units of the Totenkopfverbände, which were combined along with other Waffen-SS units, trained officers, and required support troops to create the division in 1939 is also provided.  There is a section describing the early concentration camps, their creation, and the progression of the system up until the division was organized as a combat formation. However, the book is about the "Totenkopf" Division as a divisional combat unit that fought on the Eastern Front from 1941 to the end of the war. It was never withdrawn for rebuilds like the other “classic” Waffen SS divisions, such as “Das Reich,” “Leibstandarte,” and “Wiking.” Therefore it remained on the front and was not involved as a unit in the administration of the camp system. Anyone interested in Holocaust topics will need to look elsewhere, although sources for additional reading are provided.  There is a short chapter that shows uniquely rare surviving artifacts of these pre-war units combined with period pictures that are extremely rare. There is an additional summary of the division's combat operations, including an analysis of its losses during various periods, and a review of the divisional Knight's Cross recipients during the periods discussed.  Yerger has greatly expanded the amount of Combat Elements coverage from the information found in the German Cross series. Over 100 pages describing the 13 fighting components of the division. Also included is career information for all commanders, initial staff, and “Totenkopf” Knight's Cross holders. The Knight’s Cross winners have their lengthy combat service history described with multiple, extremely detailed image captions that incorporate their surviving award proposals. Finding copies of these documents or tremendously rare originals for this many men of a division is a research triumph that only those who have studied thousands of pages of German records can even begin to appreciate.  Nearly a hundred pages follow of biographies and other information and service records of the division commanders and "Totenkopf" First Staff Officers, this information being completely presented for the first time. Another 150 pages is devoted to the first half of "Totenkopf" men awarded the German Cross in Gold with all available surviving award texts to include those of Enlisted and NCO ranks which are the most unbelievably difficult documents to find. Volume I concludes with a list of Single-handed Tank Destruction Award recipients and an original documents section which describes the procedure involved in granting awards.  While the text is the heart of the book, the incredible collection of images are clear, and large with long, informative captions, and most are unpublished. These pictures are of many personnel that I've written about for years but had never seen pictures of. Along with the normal bibliography, glossary, etc Yerger has included a name index that is essential for the 600+ men included.  The first two volumes of this planned trilogy will cover the history, organization and personnel of the division who were awarded the Cross in Gold. Yerger’s his long-time friend, fellow researcher and colleague, Ignacio Arrondo, will present the history of the nearly 20 Totenkopfstandarten in volume III. Yerger’s high opinion of Arrondo’s abilities leave me no doubt that volume III with be as detailed and complete as the first two books. This work and the following volumes are extremely highly recommended.

This book, the first volume of three, is an outstanding book packed with important information and excellent photographic material as well as award documentation relevant to the personalities of this unique combat unit. If one has an interest in the Third Reich, Eastern Front and the SS in general you must obtain and read this book. It is an extremely well researched divisional history based on the structure, development and personalities of the Totenkopf Division. This volume and no doubt the future two volumes will fill an important void in the history of the Second World War. The author(s) and publisher (Helion) are to be congratulated and thanked in making this book available. My high expectations for the book have been exceeded now that I have completed reading it. The End Notes in itself almost justify a separate volume and reflects the absolute thorough research of this book.

About the Author
Stanley L. Brue did his undergraduate work at Augustana College (South Dakota) and received its Distinguished Achievement Award in 1991. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He is a professor at Pacific Lutheran University, where he has been honored as a recipient of the Burlington Northern Faculty Achievement Award. Professor Brue has also received the national Leavey Award for excellence in economic education. He has served as national president and chair of the Board of Trustees of Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honorary. He is coauthor of Economic Scenes, Fifth edition (Prentice-Hall), Contemporary Labor Economics, Seventh edition, Essentials of Economics, First edition (both The McGraw-Hill Companies), and The Evolution of Economic Thought, Seventh edition (South-Western).

Campbell R. McConnell earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa after receiving degrees from Cornell College and the University of Illinois. He taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. He is also coauthor of Contemporary Labor Economics, Seventh edition, and Essentials of Economics, First edition (both The McGraw-Hill Companies), and has edited readers for the principles and labor economics courses. He is a recipient of both the University of Nebraska Distinguished Teaching Award and the James A. Lake Academic Freedom Award, and is past-president of the Midwest Economics Association. Professor McConnell was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Cornell College in 1973 and received its Distinguished Achievement Award in 1994.

Sean is an assistant professor of economics at Scripps College in Claremont, California. He is the author of the international best seller "Economics for Dummies" as well as the coauthor, along with Campbell McConnell and Stanley Brue, of the world's best-selling college economics textbook, "Economics: Principles, Problems, and Policies".
An avid martial artist, Sean is a former Aikido national champion and has coached five of his students to U.S. national aikido titles.
A recurring commentator on FOX Business, ABC News, and NPR, Sean holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in economics from U.C. Berkeley, where he completed his dissertation under the supervision of Nobel Laureate George Akerlof.

many editions / versions--be very careful when buying

The 19th edition of this heavily marketed economics textbook is very expensive, comes in many different editions and versions, and may or may not include the McGraw-Hill connect code. Be very careful that you order EXACTLY the version to be used in your class (including the connect code if necessary). Once you have paid your money, neither Amazon nor McGraw-Hill will be very helpful if you got the wrong book.

I give this book 1 star for excessive cost, poor customer service, and a (deliberate?) confusing array of editions and versions. This is a very commercial textbook--every aspect of purchasing and using this text ought to provide a good user experience--and that does not happen.

If I were judging on writing alone, I would give it 3 stars. It may be required for a particular course, but it is not a "keeper" that you will refer to over the years. For that get Samuelson or Heilbroner.

There are at least three editions--US, Global, and Asian. In all three, the text, graphics, and tables are nearly identical, but the chapter numbers, chapter titles, and pages are organized differently. (I have personally used only the Global edition--I have carefully compared my edition to the US edition--I have not personally seen the Asian edition.) If you don't have the same edition as your instructor, when your instructor says, "read pages 200 to 250 for the exam," you will be lost.

For each regional edition, there are at least three versions--Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. In the global edition, Economics has 39 chapters, Microeconomics has a reduced subset of 25 chapters (general econ and MICRO view), and Macroeconomics has only 22 chapters (general econ and MACRO view). Though the chapter topics correspond, and the text is nearly identical, the chapter and page NUMBERING is different in the different versions.

Your instructor MAY NOT KNOW that there are so many permutations of this text. Also, your instructor may teach both micro and macro, and so may use the more general "Economics" version, yet may tell you to get the "Macroeconomics" version for your macro class, innocently not realizing the page numbering confusion.

The global edition can be purchased through eBay from sites in Indonesia for a much lower price, but be prepared for headaches ALL THE TIME with chapter and page numbering. (This is what I did--I regret it.)

Then there is the 18th edition (which I have seen the US edition). This edition is two or three years older, and MUCH cheaper. But AGAIN, though the text, graphics, and tables are NEARLY identical, the chapter numbers, titles, and page numbering is totally different. You will have no end of trouble figuring out what pages to study.

The writing in this text is not up to the clarity of Heilbroner or Samuelson, but the graphics are mostly well-thought-out, and the sidebars are entertaining. The overall organization, chapter titles, and subheads are clear and logical. The glossary is surprisingly thorough and often helpful, but the index is a bit sketchy.

Because McGraw-Hill puts out a reorganized edition every two or three years (nothing really new, merely reorganized), you will likely NOT be able to resell your text to the following class, but maybe you will luck out. If I had this to do again, I would RENT from Amazon--and I would make sure I get EXACTLY the same edition / version that my instructor is using. (My class did not require the "connect code", so I can't comment on that feature.)

A valuable presentation of economic theory and its application to real world problems and issues.

As an instructor of economics who uses this book for undergraduate classes, I would say McConnell and Brue's text is probably the best text to introduce students who may have no background or appreciation for the study of economics. This is the latest edition of the text, and each edition tries to take into account the current trends in society. It is well written and contains clear, concise analyses to examine important concepts and principles that have taken centuries to theorize and to validate. The authors also use several real world examples and case studies to help the reader apply economic concepts to business and societal problems. I still remember using an earlier edition of the authors' text when I was an undergraduate student several of years ago. I found it meaningful and practical then , and I find it quite valuable now as a teacher. Some things never change!

I would higly recommend this text to students taking their introductory courses in economics. The material presented is quite relevant to the development of an understanding and appreciation of how humans and society satisfy their unilimited wants and needs given scarce resources and limited choices. I like to refer to it as "the philosophy of life." It never put me to sleep! No wonder why numerous academic institutions use Macconell and Brue's book as the standard text for their introductory economic courses.

Wrong description.

Bought the item, and it was a completely different book. Called them to confirm if they had sent me the wrong one but they said it was correct and that the content is the same.

I'm in college and need the exact text. Do not sell a book to people unless it's the same book that they are looking for, not something that has the same content unless they know they're are buying it.

Get ready for dragon fart jokes and boys dressing up as girls and the longest travel log ever. Pre-teens only for this one

Some spoilers here. Unless you like dragon fart jokes, boys dressing up as girls, and the longest travel log ever then you probably should give this one a miss.

Most fantasy readers don't mind a quest style book but this one just goes on and on without seeming to progress much story line at all. Too many incidental characters who last just a few pages and way too much description of what every little village or town looks like. Perhaps the pre-teens will like this one as the violence and sex is very mild and the whole thing is pretty simplistic overall.

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of potential in this book as the underlying story concept is sound, if not a bit overdone in many similar books, but not enough potential for me to bother with the rest of the series.

Promising, but with flaws.

I haven't finished yet, so perhaps this review is somewhat premature but I felt the need to share.

The concept of the story is an interesting one but a mix of many familiar tropes. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because I'm still enjoying the book but it is a telling sign of an author's first work. I have a few specific complaints but they are slightly spoilerish.

Okay, so the whole fleeing the castle journey is dragged on a bit longer than needed. Also the main character does a few things that are odd and even seem out of character. For example: After the business with the Farkas and the Kotkel is settled and Dax is able to travel again, why the hell did he never go back to Butterock (A name I don't care for. Is it supposed to be pronounce like butter rock or butte rock?) to look for his friend and companion Lukas. He didn't even freaking say anything to anyone about what happened to the poor guy. Also, when he's with Bindle, especially after discovering their connection, why the hell didn't he ask about Anna even if it's in a roundabout way? Obviously she's meant to be dragon-bound as well. Even after he's told one of the duties of the dragon-bound are to seek out others and match them with their egg, still nothing. It's... odd and annoying. It really doesn't feel like these are the sort of things that just slip one's mind. Also, the ship's captain he'd gotten along with so well deserved to know what the hell happened to his ship. I feel like Dax really needed to go back and set a few things right.

I'm hoping we get better as we go and the characters actions are a bit more consistent.

Dragons, kings and hiding in plain sight. A must read

I read this book originally on wattpad and loved it, so I was supper happy to find it on amazon.
This book has it all dragons plots to gain the throne and humor. The main charter is forced to flee for his life when his father is murdered and he finds out plans to kill him as well. Like the title implies he is a king in exile even if it is self imposed exile, better though dead than actually dead.
I loved the lore that was done for the dragons and just were the dragon egg was found. This book goes into the problems that one finds on the run with a dragon egg and the problems that accrue when said egg hatches. How do you hid a dragon?
The book ends in a great place but keeps it open for the next one. If you like dragons this is a must read. If you have head the false prince you are sure to like this book.
